Well, today was the big day. I still have my job. I have no idea if a pay cut will be involved, but I *DO* know that my bonuses will be disappearing. And I had to say goodbye to three of my coworkers today. Candice, Antrina, and Stephanie all took the "voluntary reduction". Stephanie's last day was yesterday, while Antrina and Candice stuck around one more day. Both of them spent all day on the internet looking for jobs, as well as polishing their resumes and references. Can't say as I blame them. What do ya think *I've* been doing for the past four days... *sigh* I'm pretty disillusioned about the holiday season. I'm broke as a joke this time around. I'm tearing up the internets looking for a new job. Grandmother can't come to visit this year due to surgery. I miss her a lot, so THAT'S sad. WoW isn't working anymore; I need a new video card; cuz ATI and WoW are no longer the best of friends. Half the people in my office got one problem or another: son's got appendicitis, two car accidents, mom's in the hospital, pregnant kid lost the baby, yada yada yada what-have-you. Yeah, at least I'm still alive and healthy and none of my immediate relatives have died and no more of my friends have passed away, but I'm still really depressed right now. I can't WAIT till this holiday season is over; it all seems so jinxed... Some good things: I *DO* have enough cash to go see Spam-A-Lot this weekend, which I hope to do with a certain fabulous, fiery female friend of mine. And my furniture bill should be getting wiped out this next week. So that's ONE less annoying bill I get every month. Here's hopin'... I don't think I'll be making it to City this weekend... eh. I'm too tired to socialize much tonight anyways...
YAY MY JOB!!! My whole department got called into a meeting today, where the powers-that-be made the announcement that they're eliminating three jobs from my department by this Friday! We can either re-apply for our jobs here and hope to get one of the remaining spots, attempt to get another job within Henry Ford Health System that we're qualified for with a little managerial "oomph" behind our applications (Yeah, right. And monkeys might fly out my butt!), or we can take a voluntary lay-off and get paid with benefits through the end of February. All this a week before Christmas, too... I *KNEW* my bitter, cynical spidey-sense was tingling for a reason!!!!

Al-Shpedoinkle!
First of all: Thank you Kevin & Preety for the steaks and the vino. And the edamame. And those really awesome cheese-and-spinach dumpling thingies; those were awesome with cheese, literally. Second of all: a whopping fat Godspeed to Lexie. We miss you terribly already. With the crying and the groveling and the wringing of the hands. Third of all: I need to get back on the horse with this whole jorb-search thing. I've bombarded all the major hospital organizations in Detroit again. I'm thinking of looking outside of the D, as well. Fourth of all: I'm broke. So I won't be going out and partying until after X-mas is over and done with. Fifth of all: THUDD!
Three things I enjoyed yesteday: 1) World of Warcraft 2) The company of cool people. 3) Three coney islands from National... While on the subject of WoW, I have this bizarre idea floating around my head lately: Starting a hardcore PvP guild. I couldn't do it on my current server, which is an RP server, 'cuz the name wouldn't be very RP-ish... The guild would be named The First Church of Homsar. We would all have featurless blue tabards and start every sentence with, "WaAaAaAaAaAa", with some nonsense added in after that. *Shrug* I dunno.... it's the best idea I've come up with thus far.... I spent ALL DAY yesterday in a training session (company-mandated, mind you) for MS Outlook, which basically everybody in my whole friggin' company already knows how to use. So, I got ZERO work done, which I'm trying to recover from TODAY. But hey! I can now use *E-STICKY-NOTES* properly! Huzzah!!!! *sigh*
Just so you know, I am now in full possession of a Carmie! ..or is it, a Carmie is in full possession of ME? Hmm... Anyways, I have a Carmie staying with me and that's freakin' awesome with extra cheese and pickles. And cheese! :D
Ramen noodles: 10 pts. Korean ramen noodles: 10 more points. REALLY HOT Korean ramen noodles: 10 MORE points. No hashi: 10 less points... Yum.
Now, it's time for the latest edition of, "Booooooooooring"... We finished the integumentary (skin) system and started on the muscularoskeletal system today in class. I picked up my medical dictionary and the second volume of the coding text, which brings me to seven (7) books for this class! And I can no longer fit them all into a single backpack. I need me one o' them thar totes-on-wheels. Went and saw Lisa and Jeremy and Teh Jessy, and watched them peruse the internets for cool drink recipes involving Irish products (translated: mostly Bailey's) in honor of St. Patrick's Day tomorrow. Which reminds me: HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY to all! Don't get alcohol poisoning all at once! They only have a limited amount of stomach-pumping equipment at the hospital! Try and stagger your respective liver failures to allow for limited hospital access! That's right: SHARE! I totally welched on going to Luna, both last night & tonight. Sorry! I'm too tired, plus I need to conserve my money/liver capacity for tomorrow night, which will be ED'S ST. PATRICK'S DAY PARTY!. Be there or be cubical! ...and now, I leave you with this... I have ZERO ideas what to do tonight. Dirty Show? City Club? Sit on my ass and pound beers whilst watching The Matrix? Oh well. Finally got my frickin' haircut. Several dozen thousand thereof. Got my tax return done. Too pissed off to say. Have to call doctor whatshisface & get my prescriptions renewed. Oh well. Damn lack-of-life... Swords....
Well, I made it to Lexie's big Anti-Valentine's Day bash, in spite of my own anxiety and lack-of-downriver-direction. My tally for the night was: 1) a full bottle of Johann Krauss piesporter and 2) at least half a bottle of Arbor Mist Sangria white zinfandel. Felt a *little* tipsy, but not much more than that. Fucking liver. Anyways, I was, at the very least, uninhibited and social, so I must say I had a pretty shpedoinkle time, if I do say so myself! Whether or not I acted like a complete jackass remains to be seen, in the sense of "whether or not anybody remembers a damn thing I said".... It saddens me greatly to hear of Lexie's plans to move to tardville (a.k.a. Texas)... DON'T LEAVE US!!!! OUR POOR, INTELLECTUALLY-DEPRIVED SOCIAL ATMOSPHERE *** NEEDS*** YOU!!! On a completely different, unrelated note, I found an AWESOME picture of the Ashura festival in Iraq (courtesy of the good ol' BBC), where the Shi'ite Muslims celebrate/renact the martyrdom of Imam Husain a generation after Muhammed's death. I'll give you THREE GUESSES why I find it quite so awesome! ;)  WHEEEEE SWORDS!!!!!

Well, the first half of that game sucked. I mean, there was exactly ONE decent play in the whole first half. The rest was pure comedy. Total crap. The second half was MUCH more entertaining (That gadget play that resulted in the touchdown was frickin' awesome!), but I think it was the commercials that really made this game. And Detroit didn't fuck up! Overall, not bad! ...Now, let's hope all the hoopla results in some decent press for the D...
Dumb question for everybody out there... Does anybody know where I can get a total interior-and-exterior car wash around here? Up and down, side to side, in-and-out, vacuum, armor-all, upholstery, window interiors, partridge-in-a-pear-tree? I really, REALLY need to professionally clean my car. |
